Q: When a physician writes on the plan of care and changes the diagnosis, do we have to cancel the submission to Medicare, do the correction, and then resubmit to Medicare? Can’t we just do a correction to the plan of care with a telephone order?
A: Since a change to the diagnosis is considered an OASIS non-key field change, the agency would need to re-open the assessment, make the changes to the diagnosis, and re-lock and re-submit the corrected record. Corrections should also be made to the hard copy or electronic document based on the OASIS correction policy.
